Police search for missing man in Warneet

Local police, Air Wing and Water Police launched an air, sea and ground search for a man who remains unaccounted for following a marine incident overnight.

Police have been told three mates were out in China Bay, in the vicinity of Warneet, when their vessel ran out of fuel on Monday 30 October about 3.30pm.

Emergency services weren't aware the trio were in difficulty until one of the men was able to make it to shore and raised the alarm about 9.30pm.

Another young man was heard calling out for help, in the vicinity of the Rutherford Parade boat ramp, before he made his way out of the water, cold and covered in mud.

At this stage the third man remains unaccounted for however police have been told by the pair the third man did make his way to shore and left the area on foot.

The young men, aged in their early 20s, have told police they had been trying to get back to shore since the boat ran out of fuel however haven't been forthcoming with further information surrounding the incident.

The ongoing search overnight at this stage has failed to find the third man.

Police are appealing for anyone with information or the missing man to come forward.

The vessel, which was not fitted with flares, a radio or safety equipment, has been towed to shore and secured.
