Police Seek Help After Warrawong Assault

Detectives have commenced an investigation after a man was seriously assaulted near Wollongong.

About 2.20pm last Friday (5 June 2026), emergency services responded to reports of an assault on Oxlade Street, Warrawong, 10km south of Wollongong.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 44-year-old man at the scene before he was airlifted to hospital in a serious but stable condition with a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain and other injuries.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Police have been informed that the man was exiting a vehicle at the location when he was assaulted by two males with hammers who left the scene in a white Suzuki Vitara.

Inquiries have established that the vehicle had been stolen during a break and enter from a home in Alison Street, Seven Hills, sometime between 11.30pm on Thursday 4 June 2026 and 5.30am on Friday 5 June 2026.

The vehicle was recovered by police following a pursuit at South Granville about 10.20pm on the Friday (5 June 2026), where six males ran from the vehicle after it came to a stop in Ostend Street.

Two teenage boys were arrested after a short foot pursuit, and a third boy was also spoken to by police.

One of the arrested boys – aged 15 – was taken to Granville Police Station and charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen

He was granted conditional bail to appear at a children's court on Monday 13 July 2026.

The other two boys were later released from custody and the three other males were unable to be located.
