Police seek information after assault at Grafton

Investigators are appealing for information after a man was allegedly assaulted at Grafton last night.

Police have been told a 64-year-old man was asleep in his vehicle while parked on Prince Street, when he was awoken by up to six unknown persons approaching his vehicle about 10.15pm (Thursday 7 September 2023).

As the man got out, he was allegedly punched and kicked several times before being assaulted with a long object.

As witnesses came to the man's aid, the group fled the scene and were last seen heading north along Prince Street.

The man then drove himself to Grafton Base Hospital where he was treated for lacerations to his head.

A short time later, officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District attended a park on Prince Street, Grafton, where they established a crime scene, which has since been forensically examined.
