Police seek information after robbery and assault of two women - Blacksmiths

Police are appealing for public assistance after a woman was assaulted during a robbery in Lake Macquarie last month.

About 2.15pm on Wednesday 26 May 2021, two women – both aged 49 – were walking north over the Swansea Bridge.

As they walked onto a nearby bike track towards Blacksmiths, they were approached by a man and a woman who were not known to them.

The pair demanded one of the women's handbags before the man punched the woman to the face and knocked her to the ground.

The man then demanded the other woman's handbag, which she gave, and the pair fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The women attended Belmont Police Station a short time later to report the incident before attending Belmont Hospital for treatment to facial injuries.

As Lake Macquarie police continue their inquiries, they are appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage from either north or southbound along the Swansea Bridge between 2pm and 2.30pm on Wednesday 26 May 2021, or dashcam footage from the surrounding streets to contact Belmont Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
