Police seek information on Aggravated assault in Darwin City 9 December

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man for an aggravated assault in Darwin City overnight.

At 11pm, police were flagged down by security staff on Mitchell Street to assist in providing first aid to a man with a laceration to his chest.

Police provided first aid before St John Ambulance conveyed the man to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition.

Witness statements and CCTV indicated the man had been assaulted with an edged weapon by another man on the corner of Smith Street and Peel Street. Police located and arrested the 34-year-old man a short time later and he is expected to be charged later today.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey said "Investigations into this assault remain ongoing and we are urging anyone with information to make contact on 131 444."
