Police deliver crime update to Council
Last night's council meeting heard an update on crime from local senior police.
The presentation by Inspector David Maher let local senior police update Council about their efforts to tackle recent high-profile criminal activity in Orange.
Council to explore 'pump track'
Last night's meeting has decided to explore establishing a new pump track for bike riders in Orange.
The meeting passed a motion from Cr Tony Mileto which calls for a feasibility study to investigate the design, relevant costings and grant funding opportunities associated with constructing a bicycle 'Pump Track' in Orange.
A pump track is a circuit for bike riders which includes banked turns and jumps. It can also be accessed by wheelchairs.
Council to recognise sporting stalwart
Last night's meeting decided to look for opportunities to recognise the contributions over many years by a local stalwart of sport.
The meeting supported a motion by Cr Tony Mileto to investigate opportunities to recognise the significant contribution made by Mr Bob Russell to the sporting community of Orange.
Bob Russell recently passed away and previously owned a Sports Store in Summer Street during the late 60s, 70s and 80s.
Council debates plan to paint Lords Place pots
POTS: Council will investigate how to involve indigenous artists and primary age children in decorating the large planter pots in Lords Place.
Last night's meeting discussed a proposal to involve indigenous artists and local school children in the painting of large planter pots in Lords Place.
The meeting supported a motion From Cr Mel McDonell to undertake a design challenge inviting all local primary schools to create a design for the large plant pots along Lords Place South. The motion also asked for local Indigenous artists and emerging artists to have their artwork showcased on the pots.
Council to offer extra support to asylum seekers
Last night's meeting decided to join the Mayoral Taskforce Supporting People Seeking Asylum as a general member Council.
The meeting supported a motion from Cr David Mallard to become a member of the Taskforce. Established in 2018, the taskforce now includes 38 Councils across Australia. Membership will cost the Orange City Council $500 a year.
Council hears cost of supporting Yes case
Last night's Council meeting noted a report on the financial costs of its support for the local Yes case in next month's referendum.
The Council resolved in December 2022 to support the Yes case. The Total expenditure since then has totalled $3,277.66. These costs includes newspaper advertising, catering for events and in-house printing.
Small grant donations
Last night's meeting decided to donate:
- $2500 towards a request of $3,000 to the Mr Perfect organisation to support the running of their monthly BBQ
- $71 to the Mountain Hope Church to pay the Council administration fee to book Margret Stevenson Park in Spring Street for three community BBQ events.
