Police update: Search and rescue, Far North

Police have located a fishing vessel reported missing in waters off Far North Queensland.

The 30-foot commercial fishing boat was reported missing on Friday after going to sea on March 16 and communications failing.

The vessel was located as part of an air search about 50NM south of Portland Roads around 1pm.

The 54-year-old fisherman confirmed via radio that he was safe and well and making his way back to shore.

Police would like to thank everyone involved with the search including members of the public and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority for their assistance in the search.
