Politician Policies Blamed for Rate Hike Pain

Family First Party

Families will never be able to get ahead until government spending is under control and net zero is dumped.

The two biggest drivers of inflation impacting today's interest rate hike are politician-inflicted, according to Family First National Director and NSW Legislative Council candidate Lyle Shelton.

"Millions of families will be suffering as a result of today's politician-induced interest rate hike of 25 basis points," Mr Shelton said.

"With government spending as a percentage of GDP running at a 40-year high, $1 trillion of Commonwealth debt and energy policy that is pushing the price of everything up, it is disingenuous of Treasurer Jim Chalmers to say today's rate hike has nothing to do with government policy.

"Because the government's budget is not in order, family budgets will be made to pay," Mr Shelton said.

"Australia has gone past the point where there are easy answers to our economic woes which are entirely the result of foolish economic decision by both sides of politics.

"The NDIS must be trimmed, the bloated public service cut and there must be a return to reliable and affordable coal and gas fired electricity in the short term if Australia is to have any hope of taming inflation.

"Borrowing money to provide 'cost-of-living assistance' might make people feel good in the short term, but the reality is it is to inflation what pouring petrol on a dumpster fire is.

"It's time politicians told voters the truth about the consequences of their massive debt and deficits and levelled with them about the real costs of the so-called energy transition.

"Australia has run out of easy short-term options to fix the economy."
