As a result of the resignation of Erik Bottcher from the New York City Council effective February 4, 2026, a vacancy has been created in the seat he has held as a Council Member for the third Council district. Accordingly, pursuant to the authority vested in me by Section 25(b)(1) and 25(b)(6) of the Charter of the City of New York, I hereby proclaim that a special election shall be held in the third Council district on April 28, 2026, to elect a Council Member to serve until December 31, 2026. Pursuant to Section 25(b)(7) of the Charter, nomination of candidates in this election shall be by independent nominating petition.
