Qld Government helping manufacturers become LEAN to build business

Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing and Minister for Water The Honourable Glenn Butcher

The Palaszczuk Labor Government is helping Queensland manufacturers create more good jobs and better services, through a series of LEAN manufacturing workshops across the state.

Minister for Regional Development and Manufacturing Glenn Butcher said the two-day workshops are focussing on helping manufacturers understand the power of LEAN principles and how they can be applied in business, to drive growth and profit.

"These workshops provide practical ways of thinking to give small business owners a leg up in business growth strategies.

"Manufacturing adds more than $20 billion a year to the state's economy and Queensland manufacturers are among the best in the world.

"To grow and remain competitive as an industry, we need to help businesses work smarter, not harder, and that's where these workshops can really help," Mr Butcher said.

LEAN principles are powerful tools designed to help a business increase productivity, improve quality, and encourage employee engagement while minimising waste and reducing business costs.

The workshops are delivered in partnership with TXM Lean Solutions, a specialist consulting business helping companies to achieve operational excellence through implementing lean thinking.

These workshops are an opportunity to learn about LEAN thinking and gain fresh insights into how to overcome challenges, increase business sustainably and improve business operational performance.

Along with helping participants to better understand the value of LEAN thinking and identifying LEAN solutions for their business, these workshops will also include assessment of the cultural, leadership, and business maturity within business operations.

TXM Lean Solutions spokesperson Ron Spiteri said: "Looking ahead we know that there is a growing demand to manufacture products here in Australia, and Queensland businesses are well-positioned to capitalise on that growth. The key to realising these growth opportunities is being more efficient and smarter about where you invest your time and money in your business," he said.

"These workshops are practical and immediately helpful. We have had such fantastic feedback already. We know that anyone applying the lessons learned will improve their business processes," he said.

"Someone who attended our Cairns workshop said that he was able to confidently plan and execute improvements to the business, and also said that the workshop delivered 'a wealth of knowledge in a way that's easily understood and replicated', and there's been more, similarly positive feedback," he said.

Minister Butcher encouraged manufacturing businesses looking to get into more LEAN initiatives, to sign up.

"These workshops are just $50 per person, to gain access to a wealth of knowledge, to help our manufacturers be the best they can be."
