Queensland Speeds Up 5,000+ Homes for SE Region

Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and Minister for Industrial Relations The Honourable Jarrod Bleijie
  • Crisafulli Government declares Provisional Priority Development Area (PPDA) for four sites across SEQ – only the second PPDA in Queensland's history.
  • PPDA will fast-track more than 5,000 homes in Brisbane and Logan, supporting the government's target of delivering one million homes by 2044.
  • The approach will accelerate more than 30 hectares of under-utilised government land in South Brisbane, Brisbane's CBD, Banyo and Logan.

The Crisafulli Government has fast-tracked more than 5,000 new homes for Queenslanders across Brisbane and Logan, following the declaration of the Land Activation Program (SEQ Tranche 1) Provisional Priority Development Area (PPDA) today.

The PPDA, only the second declared in Queensland's history – both under the Crisafulli Government – will accelerate the planning and delivery of more than 5,000 homes across three key Land Activation Program sites in Brisbane, as well as a key parcel of under-utilised state-owned land in Logan.

The declaration, which follows the announcement of the state's first PPDA at Port Hinchinbrook in October 2025, will help reverse Labor's Housing Crisis and the former Labor government's land-locking policies that stifled development during their decade of decline.

The PPDA gives the Crisafulli Government a targeted, short-term mechanism to accelerate the delivery of new homes over three years.

The sites collectively span more than 30 hectares comprising the landmark mixed-use precincts planned for the former Visy site at South Brisbane and Turbot Street in Brisbane's CBD and well as development-ready state-owned sites at Meadowbrook and Banyo.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jarrod Bleijie said the milestone was a critical step towards the Crisafulli Government's target of delivering one million homes by 2044.

"Unlike Labor, whose glossy brochures delivered nothing, the Crisafulli Government is getting on with the job of driving new development through the activation of land that has sat idle for years," Deputy Premier Bleijie said.

"The Crisafulli Government is taking decisive action to tackle Labor's housing crisis, and today's declaration across these four key sites is about delivering more homes, sooner, for more Queenslanders.

"By unlocking under-utilised government land and using the power of a PPDA, we will accelerate delivery of more than 5,000 new homes in areas close to jobs, transport and other important everyday services.

"This is about cutting unnecessary red tape so industry can get on with building homes sooner, while ensuring the developments are well-designed and reflect the needs of local communities.

"EDQ will continue to work with all successful proponents to ensure they have everything they need to move quickly on these developments."

Queenslanders are invited to have their say on the PPDA's Provisional Land Use Plan, which is now in effect, by 19 June.

As the PPDA's development assessor, EDQ will assess new applications lodged from today, reducing red-tape and fast-track homes and precincts, while also balancing the needs of local community and industry.
