Quiet minister must speak out on rock lobster decision

Tasmanian Labor

The Primary Industries and Water Minister must announce her intentions for the Tasmanian Rock Lobster Fishery this week.

The Minister has had ample time to consolidate her thoughts regarding the proposed policy and rule changes to the rock lobster fishery.

The Minister must alleviate the concerns of Tasmanian rock lobster fishers.

These concerns are being amplified due to the opening of South Australia's rock lobster fishery, and the potential impact this will have on prices.

It is an un-nerving time, especially for those single-handed fishers whose livelihoods depend on the Minister's decision.

These fishers need to prepare for their future, prepare their families for what is to come and also their communities.

The Minister's inaction is typical of a Government that can't get the basics right.

People are waiting for answers.

The Minister must make her decision this week.

Janie Finlay MP

Shadow Minister for Primary Industries & Water
