QUT Honours Queensland Great

QUT Honorary Doctorate recipient Dr Mick Power AM has been recognised as a Queensland Great ahead of Queensland Day celebrations.

The BMD Group founder and influential business and community leader was named a Philanthropic Great for his fundraising towards disaster recovery, women's sport, healthcare and veterans.

"His contribution reflects the values he holds deeply: resilience, practicality, generosity and backing others when times are tough," the Queensland Great award citation noted.

The announcement follows QUT Council's decision to award Dr Power a QUT Honorary Doctorate last year for his distinguished service to QUT and the community and for his support of the QUT BMD Civil Engineering Scholarship and the QUT Extreme Science Van initiative.

Five Queensland Greats Awards were handed out this year as part of the State Government's Queensland Day Awards which are announced ahead of Queensland Day celebrations on Saturday 6 June.
