Baiting of rabbits in Crescent Head to control high population numbers is set to begin soon.

The population of rabbits in Crescent Head is much larger than expected and the baiting will take place over a longer time to bring numbers down.

Baiting will be in the form of pindone carrots and stations will be clearly signposted. Residents are asked to keep their pets, children and themselves away from stations while baiting occurs.

There are potential impacts such as unpleasant odours from dead rabbits because of baiting.

Due to the ongoing wet and cold weather, the original plan to use biological control is unable to be carried out at this stage. This will be revisited should conditions be suitable.
