Rain, Storms Sweep Central, Eastern Australia

BOM
G'day from the Bureau with your national weather forecast around the country for Tuesday, the 9th of September. All eyes will be on a band of showers and thunderstorms stretching from New South Wales all the way into parts of the Kimberley and the Northern Territory, as well as a low-pressure system in southern South Australia, which will slowly move eastward during the day.

These two systems are set to combine, bringing widespread rain and storm activity through South Australia, New South Wales, and into southern and western parts of Queensland. Some of the storms in inland New South Wales could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall.

In Queensland, it will be dry, warm, and sunny across eastern parts of the state, with just a few showers possible around the tropical coast. Later in the day, showers and thunderstorms will develop in the southwest as that weather system moves in. Ahead of the system, it'll be very warm, with temperatures in the low to mid 30s. Brisbane is looking at a dry, warm, and sunny 28 degrees.

In New South Wales, expect widespread rain and thunderstorm activity across northern and western parts of the state. Some storms in western areas could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall. Temperatures will be quite mild, ranging from the high teens to the low and mid 20s. Canberra is looking at a few showers and 20 degrees, while Sydney will be a little warmer at 23 degrees with some showers and a possible storm.

In Victoria, we're in between two systems. A cold front will sweep across early in the day, followed by increasing shower and thunderstorm activity in far northwestern parts late Tuesday into Tuesday night. Overall, it'll be a mostly dry and partly cloudy day across much of the state, with just a chance of a shower at some locations. Melbourne is forecast for 18 degrees with a possible shower.

In Tasmania, it could start wet across western and southern parts of the state. A much cooler day is expected behind the cold front, with temperatures in the low to mid teens. Hobart is only expected to reach 12 degrees, with a few showers. It'll also be cool across the north and west, with temperatures barely reaching double digits.

South Australia will be impacted by both the trough and the low-pressure system. Expect widespread showers, rain, and thunderstorms across eastern and southern parts of the state-welcome rainfall for those who need it. Temperatures will range from the high teens to low 20s. Adelaide will be a bit cooler at 17 degrees with showers.

In Western Australia, much drier and calmer conditions are expected as the weather systems shift eastward. Temperatures will be in the mid to high teens in the south, warming up into the 30s across the north. Most of the state will stay dry, with Perth expecting 18 degrees and partly cloudy skies.

Across the Northern Territory, showers and thunderstorms will occur in parts of the NT and the Kimberley, though they'll be hit-and-miss and fairly light. Otherwise, it'll be a warm to hot day across much of the inland, with temperatures reaching the high 30s in the north and Kimberley. Darwin will see its usual sunny day and a top of 34 degrees.
