Raptor Squad Charges Two After Lake Illawarra Chase

Raptor Squad officers have charged two people following an alleged police pursuit in Lake Illawarra.

About 2.10pm yesterday (Wednesday 22 April 2026), officers attached to the State Crime Commands Raptor Squad attempted to speak with the occupants of a vehicle parked on Shellharbour Road, at Warrawong.

Whilst speaking with the female driver and her male passenger, she allegedly reversed, ramming the unmarked police vehicle before driving off.

A pursuit was initiated.

After a short time, the vehicle slowed down on Cowper Street, where the male passenger exited the moving vehicle carrying a small child, and ran away.

Following inquiries, the 23-year-old man and child were located at a nearby shopping centre on Cowper Street a short time later.

Meanwhile, the vehicle continued to drive around the Warrawong area, before it was stopped on Bent Street.

The 22-year-old woman was subjected to roadside testing which allegedly returned a positive result for methylamphetamine.

A second small child was located inside the vehicle.

Both children were uninjured however assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics as a precaution.

The woman and man were arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where inquiries continue.

The woman was charged with use etc offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and not comply P2 licence condition not display P plates.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday 13 May 2026.

The man was charged with breach of bail and will appear at Bail Division – Court 3 today (Thursday 23 April 2026).
