Ready, set, cook

Young people are invited to embrace their inner chef at an indoor cook-off as part of the FReeZA youth program and Victorian Youth Fest 2022, which is a month-long celebration across Victoria highlighting the contributions of young people to their communities.

Twenty young cooks will work together in teams of four to create meals from an open pantry at the Baranduda Community Centre (BCC) on Saturday, September 17.

Their creations will be judged on taste, health balance and presentation by a panel of young experts, with FReeZA youth group member, Le Minh Nguyen and BCC's resident chef, Letti Gavioli, to act as facilitators.

Live music will be provided by local performer Annika Sorrensen while the FReeZA committee will cook up a storm of their own with a tasty sausage sizzle.

Wodonga Council's Youth Officer, Janet Banda, said the focus would be on fun and friendship.

"By working in teams of four, our young chefs will learn about teamwork and creativity but it's really all about hanging out together, making connections and enjoying a great day out," she said.

"Cooking and music are a great mix when it comes to bonding and having fun, so it'll be really exciting to see our talented young people making friends and food together."

The cooks are invited to join teams of four by registering their interest before September 5. Register here wod.city/YouthCook-off

Those in need of transport to and from the venue can catch a bus from the water tower in High Street at 10.30am, with the return service to depart from the community centre at 3.45pm.
