Nominations have opened for the Kingston Sustainable Business Awards 2024.

The awards are a platform to showcase and celebrate the achievements of Kingston's business, trader and entrepreneur community in a broad range of sustainability initiatives.

Mayor Jenna Davey-Burns said we have a remarkably innovative and diverse business community in Kingston and it's important we recognise and applaud those businesses and individuals making the world a better place.

"We started the awards program last year to celebrate innovation, increase awareness and demonstrate how sustainable businesses benefit our community and our environment," Cr Davey-Burns said.

"We know Kingston's local businesses are leading the way and I strongly encourage people to nominate the businesses and individuals making a real difference."

The Sustainable Business Awards are presented across six categories, covering some of the most significant challenges facing businesses today:

  • Waste Reduction and Recycling Solutions - recognising businesses and initiatives that demonstrate efforts to reduce waste generation, promote recycling, and implement solutions for sustainable waste management practices.
  • Diversity and Inclusion - recognising businesses that excel in supporting diversity and inclusion through inclusive employment initiatives in Kingston.
  • Small and Medium Business Leadership - recognising outstanding achievements by small to medium enterprises that integrate environmental and/or social sustainability principles and practices into their business activities and policies.
  • Towards Net Zero 2030 - recognising organisations who are driving towards net zero through improving efficiency, renewable energy production and carbon emission reduction.
  • Product Innovation and Technology - recognising businesses who develop innovative products and technologies that have the potential of significantly addressing climate change mitigation, adaptation, or resilience.
  • Young Changemakers and Innovators - recognising young people (under 30 years old) who have developed ideas or implemented positive change in sustainability.
