National Reconciliation Week (NRW), held from 27 May to 3 June 2026, is a time for all Australians to learn about our cultures and achievements, and to consider how each of us can contribute to reconciliation. This year's theme, "All In", reinforces that reconciliation is everybody's business.
The event featured a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by Uncle John Kelly, along with weaving activities by KJC Aboriginal Artwork.
CEO Andrew Meddle opened the event, followed by Uncle John Kelly, who welcomed attendees and led the Smoking Ceremony. Mayor Kinne Ring also spoke, highlighting the importance of everyone in the community playing a part in reconciliation.
Kempsey High School and Melville High School NASCA dancers delivered a powerful and engaging performance, warmly received by those in attendance. The formal proceedings concluded with a flag raising ceremony led by Uncle John Kelly, alongside representatives from local schools and Council.
Attendees then connected over morning tea, with catering provided by Dunghutti Catering.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to a meaningful and respectful recognition of reconciliation in our community.
