Since its commencement on 1 May 2025, the scheme has had strong uptake with Tasmanian households, schools, businesses and community groups participating.
Minister for Environment, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the environmental benefits of recycling 100 million eligible containers through the scheme can be seen in the reduction in litter.
"For 100 million containers to be returned through Recycle Rewards is a significant milestone for Tasmania, and to achieve this within the scheme's first 10 months is even more special," Minister Ogilvie said.
To celebrate this milestone, Recycle Rewards has launched a calculator on their website which allows Tasmanians to calculate the environmental benefits their recycling efforts are making, and have already achieved.
"The new Recycle Rewards benefits calculator combines two things I'm very passionate about: the environment and technology," Minister Ogilvie said.
"I encourage all Tasmanians to see how small actions - returning an eligible bottle, can or carton - add up to big benefits."
By working together with TOMRA Cleanaway and the public, the Tasmanian Government is delivering environmental solutions.
The benefits of returning 100 million containers are equal to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to taking 7500 cars off the road each year, energy savings comparable to powering 1700 homes annually, and water savings to fill 250 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
