Redfern RES investigators charge man after guns, drugs and stolen motorcycle seized; and locate wanted woman

Redfern RES investigators have charged a man after seizing guns, prohibited weapons, a stolen motorcycle, cash and prohibited drugs, and located a woman wanted over two alleged break and enters, during an operation in Sydney's CBD yesterday.

In February this year, officers from Redfern Region Enforcement Squad (RES) commenced an investigation into the supply of prohibited drugs – mainly methylamphetamine (ice) and gamma-Butyrolactone (GBL) – across Sydney's CBD.

About 11.15am yesterday (Wednesday 24 June 2020), officers arrested a 40-year-old man outside a warehouse at Livingstone Road, Petersham.

A crime scene warrant was executed at the premises, where investigators located and seized more than 1.3kg of GBL, $8755 cash and chemicals.

Officers also seized a pistol, an air rifle, a mace, an extendable baton and a stolen Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The man was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with eight offences including;

  • Possess unauthorised pistol,
  • possess unauthorised firearm,
  • possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit (x2),
  • supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity),
  • goods in personal custody suspected being stolen,
  • goods suspected stolen in/on premises (motor vehicle),
  • owner/occupier knowingly allow use as drug premises.

Police will allege in court that the man was involved in the large-scale supply of prohibited drugs across Sydney.

He was refused bail to appear at Newtown Local Court today (Thursday 25 June 2020).

As part of ongoing inquiries, Redfern RES investigators executed a search warrant at a unit at Kent Street, Sydney, about 1pm yesterday.

During the search, officers seized an amount of methylamphetamine and GBL.

A 30-year-old woman was arrested at the unit after checks revealed she was wanted over two alleged break and enters.

She was taken to Day Street Police Station and charged by detectives from South Sydney Police Area Command with aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal, break and enter house, and detention application.

It will be alleged in court that the woman was involved in two break and enters at properties at Zetland and Rosebery in April this year, during which a number of items were stolen.

She was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today.

Investigations by Redfern RES are continuing.
