Local independent dance studio, Dancehouse, will see its costs and emissions reduced thanks to new sustainable upgrades jointly funded by the Victorian Government and Yarra City Council.
Yarra Mayor, Cr Sophie Wade, visited Dancehouse to discuss the upgrades and how this will benefit the organisation, dance groups and the wider community.
Under the Victorian Government's Community Climate Change and Energy Action Fund, the dance studio will receive solar panels and a 13.5kWh solar battery, as well as having its gas heating replaced with efficient electric units.
With round the clock rehearsals and performances, and energy intensive stage lighting, audio-visual equipment, heating and cooling, Dancehouse will not only reduce their emissions by approximately 30 tonnes CO2 per annum but also significantly reduce their overhead costs.
Yarra Mayor, Cr Sophie Wade, said 'This project aligns strongly with Yarra's vision to achieve net zero emissions across the Yarra community by 2030 and is a great example of how state and local governments can work together to support positive community outcomes'.
'It was a real pleasure to meet with representatives of Dancehouse and learn about how this project will make their organisation more sustainable in both an environmental and economic sense.'
Dancehouse is one of seven community venues across the municipality where the Victorian Government and Council are partnering under the Community Climate Change and Energy Action Fund to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency and lower costs for community organisations.
