Remembering Hillcrest tragedy year

Tasmanian Labor

A year on from the Hillcrest Primary School tragedy, our thoughts remain with the children who died, those who were injured, their families, the Devonport community and the North West region.

The horrific events at last year's end of school year celebrations had a deep impact on Tasmanians and remain fresh in our minds.

As we mark the first anniversary, we remember the six children who lost their lives at such a young age.

Our thoughts are with their families and other loved ones, the three children who were injured and their families and loved ones, and the students, teachers and school community who carry the heartbreak and scars with them.

We are also thinking of the first responders - police and ambulance officers whose lives were also impacted by the trauma of that day and those who cared for the injured children upon their presentation to hospital.

One year later, it remains unfathomable that young children who were simply having fun on their last day of school could lose their lives in such devastating circumstances.

We will never forget the courage of those who helped on the day and have continued to help and support the community affected by such immeasurable loss.

While the healing will be ongoing, we offer everyone our support as they continue to come to terms with the awful events of 16 December 2021.

The memory of the students lost will live on and we are united in our support for everyone affected.
