Representing Horsham On National Stage

Cr Rebecca Sluggett, Cr Todd Wilson and CEO Gail Gatt attended the Australian Local Government Association's National General Assembly in Canberra, joining council representatives from across the country to discuss shared challenges and opportunities.

The event focused on key topics such as safer roads, housing, community infrastructure, and workforce development. It also provided a valuable opportunity to hear directly from Federal Ministers and Shadow Ministers about their priorities for the coming term.

While in Canberra, Cr Sluggett and Cr Wilson met with Member for Mallee Dr Anne Webster and Senator the Hon Bridget McKenzie to advocate for our region. Their conversations emphasised the importance of recognising and protecting productive agricultural land through improved land use planning for all levels of government.

The conference theme, National Priorities Need Local Solutions, was reinforced through Q&A sessions with panel members including the Hon Jim Chalmers (Treasurer and Minister for Housing), Kristy McBain (Minister for Local Government), Katy Gallagher (Minister for Finance), and Shadow Minister for Local Government Darren Chester. The discussions highlighted the essential role local governments play in shaping strong, resilient communities.
