A cannon and gun from World War I have been restored and now sit pride of place at ANZAC Park in Mount Morgan, ready for this year's Anzac Day services.

The sFH13 German Howitzer and 95mm Smoothbore Turkish Gun were removed from the park in February and taken to Rockhampton for specialist refurbishment.

The artillery has been refurbished in close consultation with Australian heritage specialists and was reinstalled in time for ANZAC Day services.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams said it was great to see the pieces back in ANZAC Park for this year's events.

"These pieces are part of central Queensland's history and it's great to see them sitting pride of place in ANZAC Park.

"We want Mount Morgan residents and visitors to be able to come here, stop and think, and feel that connection to the past.

"Communities, Culture and Heritage Portfolio Councillor Drew Wickerson said that these captured World War 1 artillery pieces represent the sacrifice and service of so many defence personnel," Cr Wickerson said.

"Council understands the significant cultural importance of these guns to the people of Mount Morgan, and that has inspired this highly specialised restoration and conservation work.

"This project has involved the meticulous rebuilding of extremely corroded metal and recoating the entire artefact with specialised paint to ensure protection of the metal.

"I commend the outstanding work achieved by the heritage conservation specialists and particularly our Facilities Team who completed the complex restoration and rebuilding of the artillery wheels inhouse.

"The restored guns now rest safely on new concrete slabs and are further protected from the elements by durable Australian-made shade structures to ensure these invaluable treasures and kept safe for future generations"

Divisional Councillor Cherie Rutherford said Mount Morgan was renowned for its place in Australian history, founded in 1882 following the discovery of one of the world's richest gold deposits.

"As a town with so much rich history, we are grateful that war history is being honoured in Mount Morgan to recognise the courage and bravery shown by our past service men and women," Cr Rutherford said.

"The guns and cannon refurbishment are the start of a broader project planned to celebrate the ANZAC heritage at ANZAC Park in Mount Morgan, and we look forward to this taking shape in coming years."

"We encourage the community to consider attending the Mount Morgan ANZAC Service this year to view these historical displays or take the time to pause and reflect at another service across the Rockhampton Region."
