Rising star sparkles in gallery nod to NAIDOC Week

The next round of exhibitions will open at Logan Art Gallery on June 11.
One of the works by Kyra Mancktelow - Born under a tree 1, 2020, ceramic, woven natural fibre, emu feathers and underglaze - will be on display from June 11 to July 24 at Logan Art Gallery.

Works by one of the most talented young artists in City of Logan will be showcased at Logan Art Gallery from next week.

The artworks, which include prints, sculptures, ceramics, paintings and weavings, are part of the first major solo exhibition by Crestmead artist Kyra Mancktelow (Quandamooka, Mardigan, South Sea Islander).

Kyra also designed the stunning mural on the Chester Park water reservoir on Middle Rd at Boronia Heights.

Her works, entitled Unsilenced, will be on display at the gallery from June 11 to July 24 - which overlaps with NAIDOC Week from July 4 to 11.

They explain how Kyra and other First Nations people view the world through distinct ways of life such as land, law and ceremony.

This project is supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund, a partnership between the Queensland Government and Logan City Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

To also mark NAIDOC Week, this round includes Elders' choice: highlights from the Logan Art Collection exhibition.

Representatives from the Logan District Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Elders have curated a selection of local artworks from the Logan Art Collection.

The other exhibitions include:
• Rochedale South artist Yu Chao Du's Doll Park will highlight elements of his life and what influences him artistically
• Cornubia artist Christopher Maddox's exhibition Onto your wall from outerspace will showcase artworks he has created from satellite images which he digitally manipulates
• A vibrant collection of artworks by City of Logan's young artists in the World Environment Day posters exhibition
