Road Crash at Wickham

Northern Territory frontline services have responded to a serious crash on Channel Island Road overnight.

Around 10:30pm, Emergency services received reports that a vehicle travelling on the Elizabeth River Bridge collided with two parked vehicles.

As a result of the crash, a 23-year-old male pedestrian fell from the bridge.

Humpty Doo and Palmerston general duties, Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service members, and St John Ambulance all attended the scene with volunteers from the Northern Territory Emergency Service on standby.

The 34-year-old male driver was arrested and subsequently released today with a Notice to Appear for traffic related offences.

The 23-year-old male was successfully lifted from the rocks below and conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital; his injuries are serious and he remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Investigations into how the crash occurred are ongoing and further charges may be laid.

Superintendent Daniel Shean said "This multifaceted incident showcases how well the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services work with our partners at St John Ambulance when responding to life-threatening incidents in difficult terrains.

"The pedestrian has fallen nearly 10 meters onto the rocks below and its astounding his injuries weren't fatal.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident, if you haven't done so already, is urged to make contact on 131 444. Please quote reference 10469048."
