Preliminary works have begun on the extension of Bridge Road in Cobblebank that will connect City of Melton residents to future education and health precincts.

Melton City Council has committed to deliver the project which will link the Atherstone and Robinsons Rise estates, and will provide access to a future secondary and primary school and, once construction begins, the new Melton Hospital.

The roadworks will include an extension to Bridge Road, between Ferris Road and Adelong Boulevard; the upgrade of the intersection at Ferris Road to a signalised intersection and the extension of all services.

City of Melton Mayor Cr Goran Kesic said the extension to Bridge Road would service much-needed facilities planned for the area.

"This is an exciting project that will lay the groundwork for some vital new services to soon become a reality in the City of Melton," Cr Kesic said.

"It's not just about the education and health facilities already planned, it's also about attracting even more of the services our community needs.

"Council has committed to this important project, which will unlock the unlock the full potential of Cobblebank and we look forward to its completion."
