North Queensland's motorsport community is set to hit the accelerator this long weekend, with sealed access to DriveIt NQ officially opening to the public.
The much anticipated milestone comes just in time for a blockbuster triple header of motorsport action at the Calcium facility this Saturday and Sunday.
Mayor Nick Dametto said the new sealed access road delivers safer, all weather entry to the fast growing venue, removing height restrictions and unlocking possibilities.
"This road is a game changer for DriveIt NQ and opens up a raft of new opportunities," Cr Dametto said.
"Not only does it allow competitors with low vehicles to access the site safely, but it also enables DriveIt to welcome more spectators and hold larger events.
"With a triple header taking place this weekend, the timing couldn't be better for people to get out there and see just how strongly North Queensland gets behind motorsports."
DriveIt NQ CEO Pat Driscoll said the Labour Day long weekend was shaping up to be an action packed showcase, featuring everything from drift cars to motorcycle racing and drag competition.
"Our members have been looking forward to this weekend for quite some time, so having the sealed road now open to public use means more people can come out and enjoy the action," Mr Driscoll said.
"This weekend's triple-header includes the 2026 Drift Matsuri on Saturday and Sunday, motorcycle racing on Saturday, and a no-prep drag meet running Sunday afternoon into the evening.
"We want people to come and see for themselves what all the hype around DriveIt NQ is about."
Divisional councillor Brady Ellis said works kicked off on the new section of the Lansdown internal roads in September last year, which included 4.3 kilometres of sealed road linking the Flinders Highway to DriveIt NQ's facility.
"It's terrific that enthusiasts and supporters alike can now get out here and be part of our growing motorsports scene," Cr Ellis said.
"We thank DriveIt NQ for their patience while these works were underway, particularly with the wet season stretching timelines a little.
"The great news is the DriveIt access road is now open to the public, and there's no need for people to go bush bashing to get there anymore.
"There is still some line marking to be completed, so we ask motorists to drive with caution, especially on rural roads.
"Other than that, we encourage everyone to come out and enjoy everything DriveIt has to offer this Labour Day long weekend."
