Romania Signs Fifth CPF for 2026-2031

Mr Cantemir Marian Ciurea-Ercău, Chairman of the National Commission for Nuclear Activities Control, Mr Mihaita Gana, President of the Nuclear and Radioactive Waste Agency, Romania, and Mr Hua Liu, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, signed Romania's Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2026-2031 on 17 September 2025. A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.

Romania has been an IAEA Member State since 1957. Its 2026-2031 CPF identifies 7 priority areas:

  1. Nuclear and radiation safety and nuclear security
  2. Food and agriculture
  3. Health and nutrition
  4. Water and environment
  5. Energy and industry
  6. Nuclear and radiation applications
  7. Nuclear knowledge management
