Despite a resounding majority of submitters opposing the Regulatory Standards Bill, Luxon's Government has pushed it through second reading.
"New Zealanders made it clear they don't want this zombie Frankenstein of the Treaty Principles Bill. Today Christopher Luxon has chosen to ignore them," says Green Party Co-leader, Chlöe Swarbrick.
"Our country has real problems we could be fixing, but instead the Government is stroking the ACT Party's ego by reviving and pushing through their vanity project which has failed three times over the last twenty years.
"The law preaches 'good law making' while breaking its own rules. It's been rejected by its own Ministry, health experts, the legal profession, environmental organisations and almost 99% of nearly 160,000 submitters.
"That's because it entrenches special treatment for those who own things over those who don't; over our collective wellbeing, over our environment and climate, and over our democracy.
"New Zealanders care about each other and the planet that we live on. This Bill is trying to entrench polar opposite 'principles' in how we make our laws moving forward. That's an affront to who we are as New Zealanders.
"The Greens will repeal this waste of time and money, and we'll deal with the real issues our country is facing. We're proud to have the solutions to lower the cost of living and climate changing emissions while improving people's quality of life.
"The first step is making this a one term Government," says Chlöe Swarbrick.
