Safe located in stolen vehicle

Regional Investigations Unit detectives are seeking the owner of a safe (pictured) that was located in a stolen Suzuki Swift hatchback that was stopped by police last night, 30 December 2020.

The Suzuki Swift was stolen from a residence in Morley during the early hours of Wednesday, 30 December 2020. About 8pm last night (30/12), police sighted the vehicle at a service station on Great Eastern Highway in Ascot.

It is alleged as officers approached the vehicle, the driver attempted to flee at speed in reverse. Unfortunately for the driver, the Suzuki struck a pole and the kerb, causing significant damage to the vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot and two were located a short time later by police and taken into custody.

During a search of the stolen Suzuki Swift, officers located various items believed to be stolen, including the safe.

• A 31-year-old man from Como has been charged with Steal Motor Vehicle and Drive Recklessly; Reckless Driving; and Breach of Bail.

• A 22-year-old woman from Victoria Park has been charged with Steal Motor Vehicle; and Breach of Bail.

They are both due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 31 December 2020.
