School cafeteria with amazing views in Bunbury officially opened

  • New cafeteria and courtyard at Bunbury Senior High School officially opened
  • The $5 million facility has uninterrupted views of the nearby coastline
  • State-of-the-art facilities designed by Kent Lyon Architect and built by Perkins
  • Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery has today officially opened the impressive new cafeteria at Bunbury Senior High School.

Students and staff are making the most of the $5 million modern space that has sweeping views of the Indian Ocean.

The cafeteria serves homemade food and provides a vibrant hub for students to come together at break times. The facilities are also regularly used for large meetings of students and staff.

Spilling out from the indoor canteen is a spacious courtyard that is used by students during recess and lunch times and as a teaching space for outdoor activities.

Funding was also provided to upgrade the school's home economic facilities. The industry-standard upgrade has enabled teaching staff to increase the complexity of the classes available to students.

The state-of-the-art cafeteria and courtyard were designed by local firm Kent Lyon Architect and built by Perkins.

Kent Lyon Architect are currently also working on a $3.1 million refurbishment of the school's sports hall changerooms and associated amenities. This project is part of the State Government's WA Recovery Plan.

As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:

"I have been looking forward to officially opening this impressive cafeteria building since earlier this year when our plans were postponed because of a COVID-19 lockdown.

"It's no surprise that the cafeteria and courtyard have become a hub of activity, learning and socialising at Bunbury Senior High School."

As stated by Bunbury MLA Don Punch:

"I want students in the Bunbury area to have access to great facilities, and there is no doubt this cafeteria is state-of-the-art.

"The incredible views make this the perfect space for students to relax and recharge between classes."
