Schools to open all day Friday - strike action averted

Roger Jaensch, Minister for Education, Children and Youth

The Tasmanian Government is pleased to announce that ongoing discussions between the Department for Education Children and Young People and the Australian Education Union have averted Friday's planned stop work action.

The Government will provide the AEU with a final wage offer this week after further agreements were reached between the two parties.

The AEU has committed to providing this offer to its members.

Minister for Education, Children and Youth, Roger Jaensch, said negotiators worked tirelessly to ensure a resolution was achieved and schools could operate as per normal timetabling on Friday.

"I would like to thank families and students for their patience during this process, and I am pleased to announce schools will be open as normal on Friday," Minister Jaensch said.

"Importantly, our hardworking education staff will shortly have the opportunity to vote on an offer that will give them a fair and affordable pay rise, as well as additional in-class support roles and improved support for early career teachers."
