Science in Parliament: WA Health research on show

Seven researchers working in the WA Health system were among 19 invitees to Parliament House recently to showcase some of the health and medical studies underway in Western Australia.

The researchers were invited as part of the fourth Science Lands in Parliament event.

Hosted by Health Minister Roger Cook in the Aboriginal Peoples Gallery, this biennial event is organised by the Australian Society for Medical Research.

It gives members of parliament (MPs) the chance to view poster presentations of various health and medical research projects and meet the researchers behind them.

This year's event featured 19 scientists and their projects covered a diverse​ range of topics that included strategies for disease prevention, research targeting different stages of life, and identifying novel therapies for diseases.

The researchers were affiliated with 10 universities, research institutes or health services including Royal Perth Hospital, PathWest and the Department of Health.​
