Second man charged after shooting on state's Mid-North Coast

A second man has been charged following a shooting on the state's Mid-North Coast last month.

About 9.30pm (Thursday 26 January 2023), emergency services were called to a home on Macleay Valley Way, Seven Oaks, about 12km north of Kempsey, following reports of a shooting.

On arrival, officers from the Mid-North Coast Police District located a 36-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his arm.

He was taken to Port Macquarie Hospital in a stable condition.

Police established a crime scene and Strike Force Broughshane was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

On Thursday 23 February 2023, detectives attached to the Mid-North Coast and Hunter Valley Police Districts, executed search warrants at homes in Greta, Rutherford and Paxton.

About 5.30pm, police arrested a 28-year-old-man at a home on Adelaide Street, Paxton.

He was taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with discharge firearm intent to cause grievous bodily harm, acquire firearm – subject to prohibition and acquire ammunition subject to prohibition.

He was bail refused to appear at Cessnock Local Court today (Friday 24 February 2023), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 19 April 2023.
