Secretary of Defense Visits NORAD, NORTHCOM

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Canadian Minister of National Defence Anita Anand visited the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado, June 7.

Secretary Austin joined the Canadian leaders to highlight the strong alliance between the United States and Canada, and express his appreciation for Canada's continuing support to Ukraine in the face of Russia's unprovoked invasion.

The leaders also discussed further cooperation through NATO to counter Russian aggression against Ukraine; NORAD modernization; and bilateral defense cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, the Western Hemisphere, and in the Arctic region. All agreed on the importance of both nations' investment in modern, ready, and capable forces. The leaders reaffirmed the deep and long-standing partnership between the United States and Canada based on a shared commitment to a secure and prosperous North America.

In addition, Secretary Austin visited Guardians and Airmen assigned to Peterson and Schriever Space Force Bases, thanking them for their continued service to our nation and highlighting their important role in training the next generation of space professionals needed to dominate in the joint space, cyberspace, and intelligence domains.
