Serious Two Vehicle Crash - Midlands Highway, Oatlands - 18/05/2020

A 25-year-old St Helens man remains in a critical condition following a two-vehicle collision that occurred on the Midland Highway at Oatlands on Monday, 18 May 2020.

Police and emergency services were alerted to the collision at approximately 5.10pm.

The crash has occurred after a south bound green 1999 Subaru Impreza wagon collided head on with a 2008 BCI 40-seater bus as it attempted to make a right-hand turn into the southern entrance to Oatlands from the Midland Highway.

The 25-year-old male driver of the Subaru and his 26-year-old male passenger also from St Helens were airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital, the driver in a critical condition with life threatening injuries, the passenger serious but stable. The female driver of the bus was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital by road ambulance for assessment of minor injuries only.

Police, Ambulance Tasmania, TFS and SES all attended the scene. The Midlands Highway was closed for a short period whilst Police Forensic and Crash Investigation Services personnel investigated the scene.

The use of alcohol or drugs are not suspected. The cause of the crash continues to be investigated.
