Shining Light On Incredible Cadets WA Volunteers

Congratulations to Darryl Deacon, who has celebrated 20 years of inspiring young people in the Bush Rangers program.

We recently celebrated the service of Darryl Deacon, long-time unit leader who's been guiding and inspiring cadets for 20 years, what an incredible milestone!

Darryl took the unit from 28 cadets to over 100 in a few short years, with the unit now averaging about 80 cadets a year.

Darryl has supported many long-term initiatives through his work, such as the Grey Sand Dune rehabilitation to stop sand dunes from swallowing the small coastal community, and planting trees through Tambellup Salt Reduction. Now in its 18th year, it has seen the planting of an estimated 35,000 salt tolerant trees to lower the water table and reduce salt levels on the surface which impede crop growth.

Since 1998, the Bush Rangers program at Duncraig Senior High School has been all about helping young people grow, through leadership, environmental care, camping, hiking, first aid and other important life skills.

Programs like Bush Rangers don't just teach skills - they build confidence, community and a real passion for protecting our environment.

Cadets WA Volunteers give over 2 hours a week, for at least 40 weeks of the year. A unit leader like Darryl probably does at least an additional 2 hours per week, plus, weekends and holidays.

Congratulations to Darryl and all the dedicated volunteers who have contributed to the program over the years. Your commitment continues to shape our future leaders and develop the knowledge, confidence and skills of young people as they transition into adulthood.
