- Perth-based builder Devlyn Construction awarded two building tenders to upgrade separate areas at Sir Charles Gairnder Hospital
- The upgrades will support the wellbeing of Western Australians, enabling more people to access vital diagnostic tools and lifesaving treatment
- The works form part of the Cook Government's record $4.9 billion investment in health infrastructure
Two construction tenders for Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital have been awarded to Perth-based builder Devlyn Construction to support more people to access important diagnostic tools and treatment.
The first of the two projects will upgrade the suites and other areas of the Neurological Intervention and Imaging Service of Western Australia (NIISwa), enhancing access to lifesaving treatment.
Based at SCGH, NIISwa provides specialist expertise which includes lifesaving care for brain aneurysms, vascular malformations, carotid disease and interventional stroke therapy.
The works will enable more Western Australians to access lifesaving treatment from the State's leading neurointerventional service.
The second project is for the installation of a third CT scanner, including refurbishment works within the existing Radiology Department, and addressing increasing demand for CT imaging at SCGH.
The use of CT scanning as a diagnostic tool has increased steadily over the past decade, with SCGH performing the highest volume of CT examinations amongst Perth's tertiary hospitals.
Alongside the two CT scanners already in operation, an additional CT scanner will enable faster access for more Western Australians to quality care.
Devlyn Construction specialises in commercial construction and has extensive experience in fit outs for health facilities.
Construction is expected to commence this year.
The tender award builds on the more than $113 million in capital works underway at SCGH, including a redevelopment of the emergency department and expansion of the ICU.
As stated by Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey:
"Our government is rolling out a record $4.9 billion health infrastructure program, which includes significant investment at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
"In addition to the upgrade to the NIISwa and installation of a third CT scanner, construction is underway on a redevelopment of the emergency department and expansion of the ICU.
"These important projects help to boost capacity across our hospital system, ensuring Western Australians can access the care they need, when they need it."
As stated by Health Minister Meredith Hammat:
"These are important upgrades so we can continue to deliver one of the most comprehensive neurointerventional services in Australia.
"Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital performs more CT scans than any other hospital in WA, and a third scanner will ensure faster access to high-quality care.
"This significant investment in our hospitals is a clear demonstration of our government's commitment to improving access to healthcare for all Western Australians."
