Wairoa Police working alongside the Eastern District Gang Disruption Unit and supported by tactical officers and specialist Police staff have conducted a coordinated operation targeting unlawful activity across the Wairoa area, resulting in six arrests.
Senior Sergeant Nathan Snell said eight search warrants were executed over the last three days with specialist Police staff, with a range of offences being uncovered.
"The operation focused on the impacts of drug supply into the area, and we're pleased to have bought charges against a number of individuals involved in bringing drugs into our community.
"Police recognise the burden drug use and addiction has on the community and are committed to holding those involved in its supply to account.
"We see real harm in the community from drugs, especially when they are connected to organised crime as they profit from addiction and vulnerability," said Senior Sergeant Snell.
Four men and two women aged between 19 and 44 have been charged with a raft of drug dealing, firearms and dishonesty offences and will appear in Gisborne and Wairoa courts in due course.
Police encourage anyone seeking help for drug-related issues to reach out to health providers, support services, or community organisations.
Further to the offending, Police working alongside the Ministry of Justice have also executed arrest warrants and seized one vehicle for unpaid fines and reparations worth more than $18,000.
Several drivers also had their licence suspended after accumulating excess demerit points. A stolen vehicle was also recovered during the operation.
