- Six new social homes built to Gold Level Liveable Housing standard
- One bedroom timber frame homes built by Shelford Constructions
- Tenants will include seniors and people living with disability
The Cook Labor Government has completed six more homes for social housing in the South West town of Collie.
The one-bedroom timber frame dwellings were designed by Bunbury-based H+H Architects and have been built to Gold Level Liveable Housing Australia standard by Western Australian-company Shelford Constructions.
The State Government is investing in alternative construction methods, such as modular and prefabricated homes and timber frame builds, to accelerate social housing delivery across WA.
These six new dwellings will soon become home to vulnerable members of the Collie community, including seniors and those living with disabilities.
The Cook Government has invested a record $5.8 billion in housing and homelessness since 2021 and has delivered more than 3,500 social homes in that time.
Comments attributed to Housing and Works Minister John Carey:
"These six new homes will provide much-need social housing for members of the Collie community, including seniors and people with disabilities.
"This project has been a great opportunity for local jobs and will provide long-term accessible housing in the region.
"It's part of our government's record $5.8 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures since 2021."
As stated by Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns:
"These six new homes build on the Cook Labor Government's strong investment in Collie including the refurbishment of existing social housing, new modular homes, transitional housing and a $2 million investment in Riverview Residence for seniors.
"Creating housing for our seniors and those living with disabilities means some of our most vulnerable community members are supported to stay connected to family and the services they rely on.
"The Cook Labor Government is delivering on our commitment to provide more diverse, affordable housing to meet the needs of regional communities like Collie."
