COVID cases in SA

There have been 616 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 4,118 active cases in South Australia.

Sadly, SA Health can confirm a woman in her 40s, a man in his 70s and a man in his 80s, who tested positive for COVID-19, have passed away. The deaths notified since the last report occurred between 27 May and 28 August 2022.

There are 107 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including three people in ICU, with one person ventilated. Of those hospitalised, 77 people have received three or more vaccine doses, 27 people are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and three have an unknown vaccination status.

Due to a reconfiguration of the data, the total number of cases has been readjusted.

Variants

The latest genome sampling has found 3.1% of samples analysed were BA.2, 3.1% of samples analysed were BA.4 and 91.8% of samples analysed were BA.5 or related variant.

COVID testing

Yesterday, 4,751 people received a PCR test in South Australia, which is a 12.2% decrease on the previous 24 hours. Of the test results returned yesterday, 286 PCR tests were positive, while 330 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.

Changes to hospital visitor restrictions

Visitor restrictions in metropolitan hospitals and health services are easing from today, 1 September 2022. This includes removing visitor restrictions on adult and paediatric hospital inpatients, palliative end of life, and critically unwell inpatients.

Some visitor restrictions remain in place to protect the safety and welfare of people in our hospitals and health services.

Metropolitan Local Health Networks may temporarily increase or decrease visitor numbers when required. Please check with the individual hospital health service for local visitor information before you visit.

In addition, all metropolitan LHNs will be removing their concierge services at hospital sites from today.

Changes to Directions

Changes to the below Directions took effect as of midnight, 1 September 2022.

  • Emergency Management (Residential Aged Care Facilities No 49) (COVID-19) Direction 2022:
    All visitors and staff who are permitted entry into a Residential Aged Care Facility are no longer required to undertake temperature checks to enter.
  • Emergency Management (COVID-19 Requirements) (Consolidated Measures) Direction 2022:

All travellers (vaccinated or unvaccinated) who arrive in SA are no longer required to undertake a rapid antigen test or PCR test on arrival.
