South-west Gusts, East Stays Settled: Weekly Weather

BOM
Hello with your weekly weather forecast for Sunday the 19th of April.

It has been mostly settled this weekend. Clear skies overnight led to widespread frost across inland south-east Australia, the first of the season for many agricultural areas. Showers and thunderstorms again impacted northern Queensland and the Top End, with isolated falls of 100 mm for the eastern Top End. Elsewhere, showers cleared away from south-west Western Australia, and temperatures remain on the cooler side.

For the rest of Sunday, sunshine and mild temperatures return to most of the south-east. But a weak trough will bring light showers and storms to south-east South Australia and western Victoria. Showers and storms will persist in the north, and it will be dry across Western Australia.

Into Monday, daytime temperatures will start to rise across Victoria and southern New South Wales at the start of what will be a warm and dry week. Late in the day, a strong cold front will approach the south-west of Western Australia.

Gusty winds, rain and thunderstorms will sweep over the Wheatbelt into Tuesday with this cold front, then clearing into the Bight. In northern Queensland, showers will become more isolated over Cape York Peninsula.

By mid-week, another high-pressure system will build over southern Australia. It will be a dry day for most areas, with the exception of a few showers along the north coast of New South Wales, as well as about western Tasmania at night.

On Thursday, another cold front will move over southern Western Australia, but it won't be as impactful. And a surge of dry air will push over the north of the country, clearing out any lingering showers and storms.

And finally on Friday, we'll see warm conditions over eastern Australia ahead of a trough moving across the south.

Keep up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings throughout the week, and we'll see you next time.
