Southern suburbs man arrested on child exploitation material, South Australia

Detectives from the South Australia Joint Agency Child Exploitation Team (JACET) on Tuesday 11 October arrested and charged a 40-year-old southern suburbs man with one count of using a carriage service to solicit child abuse material and one count of possessing or controlling child abuse material obtained or accessed using a carriage service.

The man has been remanded in custody until his court hearing on 8 November, when he will be further charged for allegedly failing to disclose his working with children status.

SAPOL's Public Protection Branch is aware of a letter being sent from local sporting organisations to parents. SAPOL has met with officials of those sporting organisations who are undertaking a full audit of officials to ensure all members are compliant with the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act, prior to undertaking any official duties this weekend.

The SA JACET comprises officers from South Australia Police and Australian Federal Police.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police wish to remind the public that trading, downloading, accessing child exploitation material is not a victimless crime. Every image depicts a child being abused and these actions perpetuate the abuse.
