Noemí Pereda, professor of Victimology at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Barcelona, is one of the authors of the first manual in Spain to address child and adolescent sexual exploitation. The Manual de detección y actuación ante la explotación sexual infantil y adolescente , published by Octaedro Editorial in March, analyses the intervention process related to this phenomenon: from identifying risks and the tools used to detect it to assessing cases and applying intervention protocols. Beatriz Benavente, a researcher at the University of the Balearic Islands, co-authored the publication.
Child and adolescent sexual exploitation is one of the most serious and least visible forms of sexual violence. It is a phenomenon that, although it affects the physical, mental and emotional health of children and adolescents worldwide, remains largely hidden and surrounded by misconceptions that make it difficult to detect and address.
This work is a useful tool for professionals, researchers and students, as it enables them to understand a range of situations and to intervene effectively and respectfully, in line with victims' rights. Moreover, it has two main objectives: to review prevention strategies that have proven effective in various contexts and to strengthen the capacity of protection systems.
Noemí Pereda is director of the Research Group on Child and Adolescent Victimization at the University of Barcelona ( GReVIA ) and an ICREA Academia researcher. She is one of the leading specialists in juvenile victimology in Spain.
