Mobile Road Safety Camera Operators (MRSCOs) are voting over the weekend on a new proposed Agreement with private contractor Serco Asia Pacific PL that should bring an end to the long running industrial dispute (119 days) over pay and safety, CPSU announced today.

Pay and Conditions.

CPSU is pleased with the advancements in pay and conditions being proposed inc;

  • 4.5% pay increase back dated to Nov 2023
  • 3.5% pay increase to be paid Nov 2024
  • 3% pay increase to be paid Nov 2025
  • 20% shift penalties for Saturday and Sunday day (to be tested in Fair work as award is 50%) also backpaid to Nov 2023
  • All allowances back paid to Nov 2023
  • Delegate rights inclusive of induction access.
  • Paid meal at post.
  • Removal of requirement to supply evidence from a medical practitioner when accessing sick leave on a Friday, Monday or before or after a public Holiday.
  • Paid travel time and kilometres between highway patrols or Vehicle Storage Locations.
  • Increase in contract hours offered to current staff prior to external hiring.
  • Paid Trauma leave.
  • Procedural fairness and natural justice process underpinned in the agreement.
  • Miscellaneous Award status giving workers greater protections regarding pay and conditions.

Operator Safety.

OHS matters

  • Cars fit for purpose – WorkSafe ergonomists are evaluating the fitness for purpose of the cars based on twisting and reaching injuries and sitting in the passenger seat during operations.
  • Employees and management are observing and complying with the cease unsafe work notice and Nissan Pathfinders – Majority of cars still off the road as the repair process is taking its time. About 20% of the vehicle fleet.
  • Renegotiation of DWGs – WorkSafe are inspecting today after non compliance with requirement to start consultation within 14 days as a result of SERCO deliberately evading their obligations.
  • Occupational violence – Investigation ongoing by WorkSafe.
  • Victoria Police investigations and prosecutions of assaults by members of the public on operators and vehicles continuing.
