Speeding driver caught almost 90km/h over limit - Day 10

A driver caught at an alleged speed of 87km/h over the limit was a disappointing feature of driver behaviour on Day 10 of the state's Christmas-New Year traffic operation.

The state-wide road safety operation started at 12.01am last Thursday (24 December 2020) and concludes at 11.59pm on Sunday (3 January 2021).

Double-demerit points are in force throughout the period for speeding, seatbelt, mobile phone and motorcycle helmet offences.

NSW Police officers will also be targeting other high-risk driver behaviour, including the Four Ds; drink, drug, dangerous and distracted driving.

So far, 8610 speeding fines and 7944 infringement notices have been issued for other driving offences.

A Nepalese man has had his driving privileges in NSW suspended after being caught allegedly driving almost 80km/h above the speed limit in Sydney's Western Suburbs yesterday. Police were conducting stationary speed enforcement on westbound traffic on the M4 Motorway at Erskine Park about 8am (Saturday 2 January 2021), when they detected a black BMW sedan allegedly travelling at up to 187km/h in the 100km/h zone. The 24-year-old driver stopped and has been issued with a Court Attendance Notice for drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and exceed by more than 45km/h. He is due to appear in Penrith Local Court on 28 January 2021.

A P1-licence holder has been charged after being caught breaching his bail conditions after being caught driving at an alleged speed of more than 110km/h in an 80km/h zone just after 6.30am yesterday (Saturday 2 January 2021), on the M5 at Riverwood. Police allege the 27-year-old Padstow man also returned a positive roadside drug test and has been issued with a prohibition notice pending analysis results. The driver has been issued a Court Attendance Notice for breaching his bail.

A 24-year-old woman from Lavington has been issued with a $2520 fine and 12 demerit points after she was caught about 1.30pm yesterday (Saturday 2 January 2021), allegedly driving at 156km/h on the Hume Highway, Holbrook. The P1 driver had exceeded her maximum 90km/h speed restriction by 66km/h. Her

drivers' licence was suspended for six months and the registration plates were seized for three months.

About 12.15am (Saturday 2 January 2021), officers from North West Metropolitan Traffic and Highway Patrol were conducting roadside breath testing on Windsor Road, Rouse Hill, when the driver of a grey Jeep allegedly tried to avoid the RBT site. The vehicle was stopped in nearby Civic Way. The 32-year-old man from Kingswood returned a negative roadside breath test; however, a roadside drug test proved positive. When police searched the vehicle, they allegedly found $2150 cash; the man was arrested and taken to Castle Hill Police Station where he was searched, and a further $4900 cash was found. The man was charged with deal with property proceeds of crime, and goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen. The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday 3 February 2021.
