Sport And Events Calendar Receives Funding Boost

  • $1.78 million in funding supporting 51 sport and recreation events across Western Australia
  • Cook Government backing a diverse calendar of events across metropolitan and regional WA
  • Part of the Cook Government's commitment to supporting active lifestyles and connected communities

The Cook Government is supporting a diverse calendar of sport and recreation events across Western Australia, with 51 organisations sharing in almost $1.78 million in funding.

A total of $1,779,981 has been awarded through the State Government's Sport and Recreation Events Funding Program, helping organisations plan and deliver a wide range of competitions, tournaments and mass participation events across metropolitan and regional WA.

The program supports sport and active recreation organisations to deliver events that attract participants and spectators, encourage more Western Australians to get active and strengthen local communities.

Funded events range from elite competitions such as the 2026 Yonex Australian National Team and Individual Badminton Championships and the AusCycling Road National Championships, through to major participation events including Ship to Shore in Port Hedland, Rottnest Running Festival and the Mighty Jarrah Trail Run.

By supporting events across the State, the program helps bring visitors to regional towns, boost local economies and provide opportunities for communities to come together through sport and recreation.

This investment forms part of the Cook Government's ongoing commitment to supporting active lifestyles and connected communities.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Western Australia has built a reputation for delivering outstanding sport and recreation experiences, and this funding will help support an exciting calendar of events right across the State.

"These events encourage more Western Australians to get active, support local businesses and communities, and create opportunities for people to connect through sport and recreation.

"Our government is proud to support the clubs, volunteers and organisations that work so hard to secure and deliver these events."
