Sport Australia Announces New Board Member

The Minister for Sport, Senator Bridget McKenzie has welcomed the appointment of Hugh Delahunty to the Sport Australia Board and said he will make a valuable contribution to the national sport scene.

Mr Delahunty, who has a background in politics, sport policy and professional and grassroots sport, will take up the position from 4 May 2019 for a three-year term.

"Hugh Delahunty's experience across the sporting landscape ensures he brings a fresh perspective to role of Sport Australia. He has been involved in sport administration at all levels and will complement the current board," Minister McKenzie said.

"It is an exciting time for Australian sport as Sport Australia plays a lead role in the delivery of the Government's Sport 2030—National Sport Plan.

"Sport 2030 will get more Australians, more active more often, drive sporting excellence and success, safeguard the integrity of sport, and strengthen the sports industry."

Mr Delahunty was elected a Member of the Victorian State Parliament from 1999 to 2014 and served as Minister for Sport and Recreation and Minister for Veterans' Affairs.

From 2003 to 2010 Mr Delahunty served on the board of VicHealth and has a wide variety of experience and knowledge regarding regional and rural issues.

He will replace board member Danielle Roche OAM upon the expiry of her current term.

"The Government would like to thank Ms Roche for the significant contribution she has made to Sport Australia since joining the organisation in 2016," Minister McKenzie said.
